"building a bridge school project"

I am at primary school and have been given a project to build a bridge. It has to span a 40cm gap. I would like to build a suspension bridge. Can anyone help and please don't make it to difficult.

Does your bridge have to hold a weight? What materials can you use?

The work sheet that he handed out says the bridge can't exceed 50cm in length, 20cm in width and 40cm in height. It has to bridge a gap of 40cm. The teacher is going to test how much weight it can hold by puting weights on it. He has not said how much weight and it doesn't say in the work sheet. I can use any material.

Well, I am sorry to say this, but I wouldn't recommend building a suspension bridge.

A would recommend building a truss bridge out of wood. A lot of people use Balsa wood.

As for glue, any common wood glue will work. Elmer's Carpenter wood glue works very well with Balsa wood. You can try adding a little bit of water to the glue. That will help the glue penetrate into the wood, creating a stronger joint.

Don't use super glue.

I would make your bridge 45cm long. Don't try to make it just barely long enough, or just barely under 50cm.

You can find pictures of several bridge trusses here:
http://www.geocities.com/Baja/8205/truss.htm

You can start by making two sides. The hard part will be joining the two sides together. You need to make sure that the bridge is perfectly vertical, otherwise it won't hold very much.

Did any of that make sense?

the best way to construct a speghetti bridge is to boil your noodles, and die with food color. Good luck little buddy
