I am taking a class in school called Bridges. We build bridges and study them in detail. Every week we have balsa wood bridge competitions and I always lose. This week's current bridge contest's rules is to:Create a balsa wood bridge with a maximum of 45 inches per side (my bridge plans to have 2 sides). The gap is 5 inches. There can be NO straight lines more than 3 inches. The total amount of balsa wood that can be used is 96 inches. I am using a glue gun to connect the pieces.
I have already created on side which is a pentagon and I plan on creating a matching side- another pentagon that will stand vertically- not horizontally- to cover the 5 inch gap. In order to cover the 5 inch gap, I plan on connection 3 inch supports on both sides so the bridge has vertical support. My pentagon has five inward 3 inch sticks that connect in the middle.
Do any of you have any tips and can help me make a good bridge.
